Two Days of Practical, Hands-On Church Safety Training

The Mesa County Church Safety Network Annual Conference is a comprehensive two-day training event designed to help church security leaders and team members develop the practical skills needed to protect their congregations and respond effectively during an emergency.

This conference combines live-fire firearms training, decision-making exercises, emergency medical skills, situational awareness, and fire-response training into one valuable event.

Whether you are building a new church security ministry, leading an established team, or serving as a team member, this conference will provide relevant, hands-on training that can strengthen both your individual abilities and your team’s overall preparedness.

Day One: Live-Fire Firearms Training

Day One will take place on the shooting range and will challenge participants to evaluate and improve their handgun skills through several recognized pistol qualification courses.

Participants will have the opportunity to shoot:

• FBI Pistol Qualification

• Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Pistol Qualification

• IDPA 5x5 Classifier

These qualification courses will test practical shooting skills, including accuracy, firearm handling, drawing from the holster, speed, reloads, and shooting under time constraints.

This is not simply a day of target shooting. Participants will gain a better understanding of their current abilities, identify areas that need improvement, and develop greater confidence in safely operating their firearm.

Day Two: Church Safety and Emergency-Response Training

Day Two focuses on several critical skills that every church security team should understand.

​

Judgmental Pistol Simulator

Participants will take part in realistic, scenario-based training using a judgmental pistol simulator. This training helps participants practice decision-making, threat identification, communication, de-escalation, and determining when the use of force may—or may not—be appropriate.

Fire Extinguisher and Fire-Response Training

Fire is increasingly being used as a method of attack against churches and public gathering places. Participants will learn how to recognize a developing fire emergency and properly use a fire extinguisher.

This hands-on training will help church teams respond more confidently to an intentional fire, accidental fire, or other emergency involving smoke and flames.

Situational Awareness

Situational awareness is one of the most important tools available to a church security team. Participants will learn how to recognize unusual behavior, identify potential threats, observe environmental warning signs, and respond before a situation becomes a crisis.

Stop the Bleed Medical Training

Participants will learn lifesaving bleeding-control skills that can be used during a violent attack, accident, medical emergency, or other traumatic incident.

Training will include recognizing life-threatening bleeding and using direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquets to control blood loss until emergency medical personnel arrive.

1 Day Skill Training Only: $125

Those who are unable to attend the live-fire training may register for Day Two only and participate in the judgmental pistol simulator, fire-extinguisher training, situational-awareness instruction, and Stop the Bleed medical training.
